I Am Who I Am – Self esteem children’s book

I Am Who I Am Paperback Teaching your children to accept themselves and others is one of the most important jobs we have as a parent and can be one of the hardest. Mental health is a growing concern for youth in Canada, particularly in respect to young girls. Self esteem children’s books can be a powerful tool in building self- esteem in young children.  After-all, what better way to build confidence and self-esteem than through children’s books celebrating uniqueness? Written by Canadian author, and mother Naadei Neequaye-Oyelade, “I am who I am” is a new self esteem children’s book about a young elephant named Elle who is made to feel different than everyone else.

Suitable for children four and up, the story plays out as Elle, the elephant, leaves home to explores the jungle. During her travel through the jungle she meets different animals along the way who express nothing but negative words towards Elle. Feeling sad and lonely, Elle wants to turn around and go home.  Then suddenly, Elle makes a friend that teaches Elle a valuable lesson-that each of the things that make her different are the things that make her unique.

Self esteem children's book If you are looking for children’s books about being different, this is a great book to start with.  “I am who I am” is a gem  of a story. The rhyming style of text is extremely appealing and glides off the tongue as you read.

With wonderful colorful illustrations this book teaches young children to accept themselves — even the things that make them stand out from the crowd.

Fans of the book “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae will immensely enjoy “I am who I am.”

My daughter loves the book. In fact, she mention that it was now one of her favorite books.  She was quickly able to express sympathy/empathy towards Elle, and told me that it was important for the animals to be kind. “I am who I am” gives lots of opportunity for parents to talk to their children about how everyone is different and how to appreciate your own uniqueness.

Overall, “I am who I am” is a wonderful book that can help kids learn to love themselves and love others. The book is available for purchase via Amazon.com.

Do you have any suggestions for self esteem children’s books?

  1. what a wonderful book! i personally do not have any self esteem books for children in mind but i can tell you I certainly have this one on my list. Love books children can relate to and with a great message and meaning behind it

  2. I don’t have any suggestions on any self esteem books but this one sounds really nice. It’s good to make kids feel great about themselves just the way they are. 🙂

  3. aww what a perfect gift! I love the concept behind this story and I think it’s wonderful to teach our children self acceptance and to start as young as possible. Confidence is hard to keep but easy to lose.

  4. This sounds like a great book to read to your young child and to let them know they are loved and they are who they are!!
