Finding the perfect career

The path to career happiness is paved with hard work, failure, and difficult decisions. Those of us who can stay on the path are rewarded with a career that will give us a sense of success and contentment. Many women have difficulty finding this path because we often allow fear of the unknown to hold us back from finding the perfect career. The unknown can be anything from finding the perfect career, obtaining the education needed, and finding the best companies to work for all while keeping a balance between family, education, and work. It is a lot to handle, but there is no reason why you can’t move ahead and achieve some of your dreams.

Choosing the Right Career

Choosing the right career is as simple as getting to know yourself. There are interest surveys, career assessments, and personality assessments that can assist you in making this choice. Many women have an idea of what they want to do as they move through middle and high school but often find their life leading them in new directions as they grow. Therefore taking surveys as mentioned will help to narrow down the careers that you will enjoy and lead you to find the right place to live to support your career choice.

Obtaining the Education Needed

After taking all the surveys and assessments and talking to your loved ones and deciding on what you want to do for much of your adult life, it is now time to get the education you need to move forward. There are many ways to achieve your educational goals. Some choose the traditional route of going to college directly after high school, while others go back to school later in life. Some women will go to a brick-and-mortar building for education. Others will go to school online so they will have a flexible schedule for their current job responsibilities, or so they do not have to miss valuable quality time with their children. Whatever way you choose to gain your education, make sure you follow through because the only way you will get the change you are looking for is through you.

Where to Put Down Roots

You have your plan and you are ready to put it into action. Next, you must decide where the best place to work would be. This is probably one of the most difficult decisions that you will have to make. This past summer Allied Van Lines released the results of their ‘On the Move’ survey series, which shares insights about the ins and outs of moving for work from employees’ perspectives. A majority of respondents (33.1%) said the hardest part of moving was finding where to live. This is one of the places where you will have to face your fears and make a move that will benefit your career path. Women should not be afraid to move away to better themselves because they feel they will let others down by leaving. People who love you will support and assist you on your journey.

Wherever you decide to begin your new career, remember, you are just as important as any other employee that has been hired. Do not settle for less money, less responsibility, or less respect than your male counterpart. If your company cannot see your worth, then you need to look at change. Contrary to what many believe, it is okay to have a family and be a powerful woman in today’s career market. Your personality traits helped you make the decisions that led you to where you want to be. Do not let anyone tell you that you are not good enough because a successful woman is a fierce woman. Also, do not let fear hold you back. Do not fear the unknown, deal with change, get your education, or move to a place that will help you grow.  With a strong commitment and a plan finding the perfect career is possible.
