Kid’s Sunglasses-Real Kids Shades

Real Kids ShadesI am urging all my readers with children to please be more vigilant with regards to sun safety. Damaging UV rays might be invisible, but their effects are not. Sun damage starts when we are children. It is estimated that a majority of skin cancer in older adults is a result from exposure when we were kids. When it comes to our children we have to be even more careful, due to their delicate skin being even more susceptible to sun damage. While not only is it important to make sure we apply an effective sunscreen, it is important children wear a pair of proper fitted kids’ sunglasses.

Do kids really need sunglasses?

Children are at a high risk for skin and eye damage from UVR, due to their eyelids and around their eyes being more delicate and vulnerable. Exposure to light and harmful sun-rays at an early age can lead to vision disturbances later in life, therefore the more skin covered, the better.

Quality of Kids’ Sunglasses

Today, Children’s sunglasses come in various designs, styles and colors, however not all kids’ sunglasses are created equally. Those that are more of a toy than an actual pair of sunglasses may do more harm to your child’s eyes. When selecting a pair of sunglasses for your child, purchase a pair which provides 100% protection from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Putting low-quality sunglasses on your child is worse than them wearing no glasses at all.

Real Kids Shades

Real Kids Shades Real Kids Shades Sunglasses is committed to protecting your children’s eyes! Real Kids Shades Sunglasses was founded under the name “My First Shades” in 2001. The company was created in response to a lack of serious dedicated eye-wear for children. The Real Kids Shades sunglasses brand is an advocate for early eye protection and lobby for strengthening public awareness of the irreversible effects of UVA and UVB damage to the eyes of children. Their line of infant sunglasses and baby sunglasses have evolved and expanded to include a full line of children eye-wear, with sunglasses ranging in age from newborns up to young adult. We have been a Real Kids Shades sun glass wearer for a first years now. In fact, the first pair of kids’ sunglasses my daughter ever own were Real Kids Shades sunglasses.

How to choose sunglasses for kids

When shopping for kids’ sunglasses ensure that the sunglasses are the correct size and fit properly. Glasses that are too big will slip down the nose and not provide any protection at all. The material of the lenses should be polycarbonate, which is ideal for children as it’s impact-resistant.

Polarized lenses

Real Kids Shades During the summer months, children are frequently exposed to water, and sand, which are significant sources of reflected glare. Polarized lenses block the harmful ultraviolet light and can selectively attenuate harmful blue light. Since polarized lenses reduce reflected glare, children suffer less discomfort and have reduced eyestrain. They are perfect for the winter months when children are playing in the snow.

Durability

Finding a pair of kids’ sunglasses that are not only comfortable, but also durable is crucial. We found “Real Kids Shades Sunglasses “to be extremely durable and stand up well to our child’s active outdoor play. All of Real Kids Shades Sunglasses feature playground resistant lenses (aka shatterproof).

Not only are Real Kids Shades Sunglasses comfortable, they are also stylish, so older children shouldn’t mind wearing them.

Education- How can parents encourage kids to wear their sunglasses?

Real Kids Shades Sunglasses Getting your kids to wear sunglasses can be challenging, but there are many ways to make the transition easier. Talk to your children about why it is important to protect both our skin and eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. When we purchase skin protecting clothing and accessories and apply sunscreen without education it defeats the purpose. Explain that sunglasses protect their eyes in the same way the sunscreen protects their skin and most of all children lead by example. Make sure you yourself are wearing protective sunglasses and applying sunscreen. In addition to wearing sunglasses and sunscreen, remember to take extra care between 10am and 3pm when UV radiation is most intense.

Very young children may be reluctant to wear sunglasses. If that is the case you can still protect their eyes by putting on a broad-brimmed hat and staying in the shade as much as possible. Brimmed hats can lower the amount of UVB reaching the face and eyes by 50%, provided they will keep a hat on.

Have fun and have a safe summer!

  1. These are great tips. My grandchildren always have sunglasses on and have since they were small. They were sunscreen and hats all the time too. Their parents are very insistent on that.
