When you think of classic construction toys, names like LEGO and K’nex instinctively come to mind. But what if we told you there’s a new contender that’s rapidly earning its place among the greats, pushing the boundaries of creativity and STEM education? Enter Engino – a line of innovative construction sets that truly has all the hallmarks of becoming a timeless classic.
Born from the brilliant mind of Costas Sisamos, a Mechanical Engineer with a decade of experience teaching Design & Technology in schools, Engino isn’t just another building toy. It’s a thoughtfully engineered system designed to inspire young minds. Since its launch in 2007, Engino STEM toys have skyrocketed to become one of the most innovative and creative construction toys globally, offering a vibrant range of sets and colors that appeal to both boys and girls.
We recently had the pleasure of diving into the world of Engino, and we’re excited to share our personal experience!
Engino’s Unique Edge: Connecting in Every Direction!

What immediately sets Engino apart is its patented connection system. Unlike traditional blocks, Engino pieces snap together in virtually any direction or angle, offering unparalleled flexibility in 3D model creation. This unique design encourages truly innovative thinking and allows for more complex, organic structures. And here’s the best part: many sets, like the ones we tried, come with a high-torque geared motor to bring your creations to life, adding an exciting dimension of animation and function!
Engino STEM toys, across all their lines, are fantastic for nurturing crucial skills. They strongly encourage planning, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of cause-and-effect – essential building blocks for young engineers and thinkers.
Diving Deep with Engino Inventor Girl: A Challenge Worth Taking

First up on our construction adventure was the Engino Inventor Girl series. Specifically targeted at girls, this line aims to spark a stronger interest in 3D model creation and core STEM topics. The series offers a range from 5-model sets to ambitious 30-model sets.
We explored one of the larger sets, and I must admit, it was quite the brain exercise! My curious almost-seven-year-old, Miss P, was intrigued by Inventor Girl, but found the complexity a little above her current ability. She enthusiastically assisted me with assembling some of the pieces, though she did lose interest quickly when the going got tough. The printed instructions, while comprehensive, were sometimes a bit tricky to follow, requiring keen attention to detail. Thankfully, Engino offers the option of 3D instructions online, which I didn’t use this time but would definitely recommend for trickier builds!
For me, assembling each model in the thirty-model set took between an hour to two hours. It’s a genuine skill-builder, designed to stretch your spatial reasoning and problem-solving muscles. The unique way the pieces snap together definitely required a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, the possibilities feel endless. Watching a model activate with the included motor after all that hard work is incredibly rewarding!
Nurturing Young Minds with Academy of STEM Junior
For younger learners, Engino has brilliantly developed the ACADEMY OF STEM JUNIOR range, specifically designed for preschool children (boys and girls) aged three to seven. The goal here is to introduce core subject knowledge while gently developing those crucial 21st-century STEM skills.
Engino Junior is similar in its robust plastic feel and clever connection system to the Inventor Girl sets, but it’s significantly easier to build and pull apart. The pieces are chunky, durable, and come in a fantastic range of vibrant colors, perfect for little hands.
We got our hands on the Wild Animals set, which allowed Miss P to build five different animals. The series covers four different topics, and what’s really special are the colorful booklets included. They start with an engaging story and extend the learning with additional activities like coloring pictures, connecting dots, and tracing numbers or letter forms. Miss P, almost seven, found this series much more accessible and could build independently, which was wonderful to see! The booklet even included interesting facts about each animal, adding an educational bonus.
Our Verdict: A Brilliant Investment in Creative Learning

In a world increasingly dominated by fast-moving trends and endless touch screens, it’s incredibly refreshing to discover a product like Engino. These construction sets truly stimulate and entertain young minds, encouraging hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and imaginative play. From the intricate challenges of Inventor Girl to the accessible fun of Academy of STEM Junior, Engino offers a progressive learning experience for various age groups.
If you’re looking for an educational toy that will engage, challenge, and inspire the next generation of engineers and creators, Engino is definitely worth exploring. We can see why it’s poised to become a timeless classic, fostering skills that last a lifetime.
