7 Eco-Friendly Items to Help You Ditch Plastic in 2021

With 2021 on the horizon, we see the start of a new year as a chance to better ourselves and better our habits. One avenue people might want to explore in 2021 is how sustainable their choices are in regards to plastic use. With that being said, here’s 8 eco-friendly items to help you ditch plastic in 2021.

1 – Bamboo Toothbrushes

With plastic taking hundreds of years to decompose and mostly ending up in landfills or our oceans, a toothbrush made from bamboo is a great swap to consider. Not only is bamboo sustainably grown but it can also be composted within a few months.

2 – Soap and Shampoo Bars

Whilst many of us use liquid soaps and shampoos, little do we know that the actual recycling rates for the plastic containers they’re packaged in is relatively small. The issue is that many people don’t actually realise that the containers can be recycled in the first place.

The solution – moving to bars of soap and shampoo packaged in widely recycled paper and cardboard.

3 – Reusable Coffee Cup

The throwing away of single-use plastic coffee cups reached over 2 billion in the UK last year. Moving to a reusable coffee cup can save over 100 cups a year going to landfill.

4 – Reusable Makeup Wipes

Another single use item going to waste, makeup wipes are the source of not only major pollution in their creation but also environmental damage as many are flushed down toilets after use.

Moving to reusable wipes such as goBambu’s cotton pads will go a long way to reducing such waste.

5 – Beeswax Wraps

Cling film is another single-use plastic that’s easily replaced. Beeswax wraps are ethically produced from excess beeswax and are combined with cotton to create the perfect cover for leftovers and can be used again and again.

6 – Bamboo Cotton Buds

Plastic cotton buds have been outlawed by a few countries in Europe already. Their most obvious replacement is paper but this still contributes to deforestation. Using bamboo which is one of the fastest growing materials on Earth is a wise choice.

7 – Bamboo Soap Dish

If you didn’t know by now, plastic is here to stay after it’s been produced. With people often giving their bathroom cosmetic makeovers, a more natural look would be a bamboo soap dish. Not only is it sustainably produced but it can be composted when you’re ready to move on to a new look.

Whilst there are many more things you can do to become more sustainable in 2021, swapping to these products is an easy and practical first step.
