Easter is just around the corner, and for parents of little ones aged 1-3, the annual Easter basket quest begins! While you’re busy gathering those fluffy chicks and pastel-colored candies, don’t forget the most enriching gift of all: a book. The simple act of snuggling up with a story is a powerful way to foster a lifelong love of reading in your preschooler. And this year, for a truly delightful and educational addition, I’m recommending Ollie’s Easter Eggs by Olivier Dunrea.

Introducing a Beloved Easter Tradition

“Ollie’s Easter Eggs” is a charming tale that perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday for your youngest learners. The story features four determined little ducklings – Gossie, Gertie, BooBoo, and Peedie – beloved characters from Dunrea’s “Gossie & Friends” series. These tiny, yet assertive, ducks dive headfirst into the Easter fun by gathering, dyeing, and hiding eggs. But what happens when Ollie, sporting an adorable pink bunny-eared bonnet, decides he wants to participate too? He moves the eggs to a secret hiding spot, leading to a delightful search and hunt that will captivate your little ones.

It’s a truly wonderful teaching tool that introduces the fun and traditions of coloring and hiding Easter eggs in an accessible and heartwarming way. I’m already eager to explore more of the “Gossie & Friends” series with my daughter!

A Glimpse into the World of Olivier Dunrea

Olivier Dunrea

Olivier Dunrea is a celebrated author and illustrator known for his captivating children’s books that often center around farms, animals, architecture, and folklore. He brings a unique warmth and whimsy to his storytelling, and his creative process is as fascinating as his books. Living in the picturesque Catskill Mountains, Dunrea’s inspiration for the “Gossie & Friends” series struck in 2001 while observing Canada geese. He began sketching goslings, and a pair of red rubber boots on his bookshelf sparked the idea of drawing them adorned with these iconic boots. This simple, delightful observation is how the beloved character of Gossie and her bright red boots came to life, paving the way for many more enchanting stories.

Beyond the Book: What Else Belongs in Their Basket?

  1. My little guy is 18 months and he likes interactive books. He likes the ones with sounds,or flaps or things that slide. I find it helps him know the words better. From a mom’s point of view I am looking for books that are really sturdy and can last from a destructive toddler.
