Shrink It – Peter Pauper Press

Super shrink by Peter Pauper Press Inc. has really taken me back to my own childhood. When I was a child we had fun with a Shrink itsimilar craft by the name of Shriky Dinks. I was so excited to try the Super Shrink it with my daughter and create a similar childhood memory.

This incredibly fun kit includes 8 Shrink It sheets pre-printed with neat designs, 8 pencil crayons and instruction booklet. This craft kit is incredibly fun and easy for children of all ages.

To get started, you simply remove the sheets from the package to reveal a smooth side and a rough side. First you choose which design to colour and position the sheets with the rough side up. This side feels almost like fabric and as you colour the fabric catches the colour. Next, someone that is quite proficient with scissors will cut the design from the sheet. This step is actually quite difficult for little hands, so generally an adult is needed for this step.

The sheets are a plastic material and quite brittle so cutting is quite a tedious chore. Any of the designs that have a small hole outline will require a hole punch to create a charm when finished. I do advise using the hole punch rather than the scissors, as attempting to cut the hole manually will result in a broken end. Next: The cut out designs are placed on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper, parchment paper, or tin foil. Preset the oven to 325C.

Place the cookie sheet in the oven and set a timer for exactly 3 minutes. In this 3 minutes the designs will start to shrink instantly and the edges will curl up. Do not worry about the curling, the design will flatten out within the 3 minutes in the oven. After exactly 3 minutes remove the cookie sheet from the oven and set aside to cool. Do not remove immediately, as the designs will be still very hot. Let cool for approximately 15 minutes to cool completely. The designs will be about 1/3 the size they originally were before baking.

Once these designs are finished the possibilities are endless. We made earrings from some of our designs by simply adding earring hooks to the hole-punched section of the design. They can be used as charms on necklaces, decoration on cell phone cases by gluing the design to the case, on Birthday cards, on headbands etc.

We had so much fun with Super Shrink It! This has become a nightly craft. Super Shrink It is so easy that even on a busy school night, we can take the time to create just a few designs and have some quality fun craft time together. Even my 8 year old daughter raves about Super Shrink It to her friends.
