The Lead-Up Lori Gansel winning her Gold Ring: Where Has She Played?

Lori Gansel made poker history for her own career on January 12, 2022, when she won her first World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit gold ring. Her victory came in the No-Limit Hold’em Bounty event at Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma, where she outlasted a field of 284 entries to claim the top prize of $17,349.

The win marked an important milestone for Gansel and raised interest in her earlier tournament results. Looking back at her career helps put the achievement into context and shows how a series of tournament appearances led to one of her most memorable performances.

A Career-Best Performance at Choctaw

Gansel’s winning performance took place during the 2021–2022 WSOP Circuit stop at Choctaw Casino Resort. The $400 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty event attracted 284 entries and generated a prize pool of $79,520.

After a demanding day at the tables, Gansel faced Grant Elmer heads-up for the title. The final stretch was close, but Gansel ultimately secured the victory, earning $17,349 and her first WSOP Circuit gold ring.

She also collected nine bounties during the event, worth a combined $450. Her win earned her a seat in the 2022 WSOP Tournament of Champions, a $1 million freeroll scheduled for Las Vegas.

In comments published by WSOP, Gansel described the victory as a pleasant surprise, explaining that she had nearly decided against entering a second time. Her decision to continue competing proved worthwhile.

Lori Gansel’s Earlier Tournament Results

Gansel’s gold-ring victory followed earlier appearances on the tournament circuit.

In 2019, she finished seventh in the $250 No-Limit Hold’em Ladies event during the WSOP Circuit stop at Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Oklahoma. That result earned her $750 and provided an early recorded tournament cash.

In 2021, Gansel returned to the winner’s circle by taking first place in a $200 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack event at the Round Rock Texas Poker Club. She earned $4,447 for that victory.

These results provide useful context for her subsequent WSOP Circuit achievement. While every tournament presents a different field and set of circumstances, Gansel’s earlier finishes demonstrate that her gold-ring win was part of a wider record of live tournament participation.

What Makes a WSOP Circuit Gold Ring Significant?

The World Series of Poker Circuit is a tournament series that awards gold rings to winners of designated events. These tournaments attract players competing for prize money and recognition within the wider poker community.

Winning a ring event is a notable achievement because players must navigate a competitive field, make decisions under pressure and adapt as the tournament progresses. In bounty events, players can also earn additional rewards by eliminating opponents, adding another element to the competition.

For Gansel, the Choctaw victory represented her first WSOP Circuit gold ring and her largest recorded tournament result at that time.

What Came Next for Lori Gansel?

A major tournament victory can open doors to future opportunities, but it does not guarantee continued success. Poker results depend on many factors, including the strength of the field, individual decisions, tournament structure and the uncertainty inherent in the game.

Gansel’s 2022 victory secured her a place in the WSOP Tournament of Champions and added an important milestone to her poker record. Her earlier tournament results also show that she had competed in live events before winning the ring.

Rather than predicting how her career would unfold, her achievement is best understood as a significant moment in her documented tournament history.
