  1. Hey Rose this is really well written and I’m glad you had such a nice visit. How is the Montreal planning coming along?

  2. I’m planning a road trip to Ottawa and I’m really excited about it. Thank you. This was helpful.

  3. Same as well for me. We stayed here very recently for 3 nights and had good experience, over all.

  4. As an Ottawa native who lived in that neighbourhood for 5 years (one street down from the hotel), I highly encourage you to skip the chain restaurant and instead visit one of the amazing nearby local Ottawa restaurants. That area boasts some of the best restaurants in the city at all price points and tastes. Among my recommendations are Gooney’s Sandwich shop, a 4-minute walk away, which serves absolutely scrumptious authentic Venezuelan-style arepas, other quick and easy spots include Sensotei Ramen, an 8-minute-walk away, or visit Ottawa’s Chinatown with so many restaurants, a 15-minute walk away. For more upscale, there is North and Navy, an Italian restaurant that is a 7-minute walk away and has regularly been named to the list of Canada’s best 100 restaurants and has also served many world leaders for official functions. Other fancy restaurants that are also walking distance include Arlo, Riviera and Beckta. You also cannot visit Ottawa without having a shawarma, which Ottawa is renowned for, because it has one of the oldest Lebanese communities in the world (many arriving in the early 1900s). My favourite is New King Shawarma Plus (yes that is the name) on Bank Street, about a 9-minute walk away, but there is a shawarma place on almost every street corner in that area.

    1. Thanks for the recommendations. Ottawa definitely has no shortage of amazing local food spots. We actually chose Baton Rouge because of the positive reviews and because we had never been to one before, so we wanted to give it a try. It ended up being a really good experience. The food was great, service was friendly, and it was a nice convenient stop after a day of exploring. Nothing wrong with chain restaurants either. Sometimes they’re exactly what you’re looking for. We’ll definitely keep some of these local spots in mind for next time that we are in Ottawa!

  5. Highly recommend baton Rouge, if your in Ottawa. I celebrated this past Valentine’s Day at baton Rouge with my husband.
