Planning a renovation? You may be in the process of giving yourself the most perfect home. If you bought your home thinking you could do it up then you may be busy figuring out your budget and what projects you are going to do. There may be plenty on your list or none at all currently, if you need some ideas and inspiration then take a look at the article below.
Flooring
One of the first things you might wish to do is change the flooring throughout your home. If your current flooring is not fit for purpose then think about what type of floors you want in your house. This could either be carpet or some form of hardwood flooring, if you need inspiration then check out your local flooring show room. They will have samples on the shop floor that you can take a look at before deciding on the final product. There are pros and cons to both flooring options, if you live in a particularly cold area then you may not want hardwood flooring. This can feel incredibly cold in the winter as it doesn’t retain any heat. Carpets are warmer but much harder to clean, and keep clean.
Lighting

Lighting is one of the cheaper renovations on the list, so you might wish to get this done first. Getting lighting out of the way takes no time at all once you know which fixtures you are going for. If the lighting you currently have is quite old then updating this will bring your home to life. Think about what type of lighting you want, you have a few choices when it comes to types and styles. You could get ceiling fixtures, ones that go on the wall, or even use lamps in each room. Lamps can give the room a warm flow if you don’t want to use the ‘big lights’.
Windows

If your home is pretty old then you may need to replace the windows pretty soon, windows typically have a life expectancy of around thirty years. This is a big job with a hefty price tag attached so you need to know which windows you are replacing. It is a good idea to do all of them at once so they all match and work together to retain heat within your home. Speak to a local window company to gauge an idea of prices and then this could go ahead and happen.
You may also wish to replace some of your doors along with this renovation, they will also be able to do this for you. Or you could do it yourself by visiting a local DIY store to get everything you need.
Extensions
Lastly, you might really wish to add some space to your home. If you are quickly outgrowing your house then a conversion or some additions can be really handy. It might be that you are trying to create more bedrooms or even a home office. If this is the case then you have a few options here. You could either use existing space you have within your home, usually a loft conversion or using the basement space. If this isn’t an option then you could always add a brand new space onto the side or top of your home.
Hopefully you found this article helpful and you now have a greater understanding and idea on what you can do to create the most perfect home that you are happy with.
