Here's my quandry. I hate dumbing down. I like to give my readers credit for having some intelligence, so I purposely don't make things obvious. I leave some room for ppl to have to figger things out.
This sometimes causes confusion. Some readers don't get my point. They are like, "Huh?"
Soooo...where do I draw the line? How do I decide what to tell and what not to tell?
Any ideas?
What are the lines that cause you to have to scratch your head? How do you deal with these situations when writing? |

My personal suggestion? Please, don't dumb down! Unless, that is, you are writing a "How to" instruction guide. Part of the joy in reading someone's work is the adventure it takes us on. To simplify your words would be like riding a roller coaster that has no hills, twists or turns. What fun is that!
If a reader has trouble understanding where you are coming from, they can always ask you, or other people familier with the work.
I have, on occaision, been asked what I meant on what I've written. I've never felt offended. I was glad they asked. |

| I agree with Smitty..... Writing is fun and sometimes can be mysterious, and that's the fun...... That's the beauty, when you can imagine a lot of possibilities..... |
