| I am 26 years old and live in the small town of Cashmere in Washington state. I had cancer when I was a baby. I had 2 major surgeries and nineteen months of chemotherapy and 3 and a half months of radiation, at the end of which I got sicker. I came down with a viral infection that damaged my brain stem and left me permanently disabled. I wear heariing aids, and have a speech impairment. I have poor balance, and the right side of my body is weaker than my left. I can walk, but I do tend to get tired a lot, so I don't like to walk for very long. At age 9, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and had to wear a back brace for the next 6 years. I graduated from high school in 2000, and went to the local community college for the next two years. After I got my AA degree, I transferred over to an university where I majored in English. I also have a minor in creative writing. It is my dream one day to be a published writer! Mostly I write fiction, but sometimes poems too. |
