[font=Comic Sans MS:8efe172f7e] [/font:8efe172f7e] I am a person who is very versatile in my music.. For eg: I love a good heavy/metal rock to work out on the treadmill. When I am at home relaxing I turn on classical music. But when I am going out with my pals..I seem to always listen to pop... Crazy?? Does anyone else have an example or am I just strange and/or weird??? I was brought up listening to classic rock...yet, I seriously very seldom listen to it..not to say that I do not like it..It just isn't a top priority...What do you listen to while driving on a road trip? At the gym? At home in your personal free time? While out with your friends? Can anyone make heads or tails of it?
Hugs,

My name is Kay.
I love music of most varieteis. The music I do not like is Jazz or Rap, unfortunately my husband is a Jazz faan and when he turns it on and whistles and taps his feet it can put me in a real bad mood, it drives me nuts, I have to leave the room. I ask him to play it in private but he still tries to convert me, no chance.
I love all other types, pop, rpock, classical, opera even country. Whichever mood I am in I will listen to something else. I went to a Strauss concert on New Years Day and that is very romantic and puts me in that kind of mood. When I listen to rock and pop it makes me want to dance. I must confess that even at my age, when I am on my own I do dance around the room if I am really enjoying the music. I have many favourite slow songs that I sometimes put on one after the other and I can sit down and have a good cry. I mean a GOOD CRY, because I sometimes just want to let it all out. I have my favourites that remind me of different people and events and I just sit and cry. After I have had enough I just turn the music off, dry my eyes and get up and carry on. It somehow seems to purge me, it leaves no effect of depression, rather the opposite it makes me happy and I have had a good day when I do that. I wonder if anyone else out there does the same.
Thank you for reading, I always seem to go on for a long time.

I agree about listening to diff types of music, depending on my mood. I NEED diversity in almost every area of my life. It provides more options and room for growth. Wouldn't want to live without diversity.
Music has had a great impact on me, personally. Certain songs (Dream Theater's Learning to Live, Queensryche's Anybody Listening and Someone Else) are the most meaningful. They really help me to stay grounded and deal with the painful events that occur.
Great topic! |

My views on music may not be liked by many, but here goes my personal opinion.
I believe music has a complete impact on the person as a whole. The words speak not only to the mind, but to the emotions. For example, if you listen to music that puts down police, then it is my belief, those who listen to this music, will not like the police. If it is a song that berates women in various ways, people may tend to act out those vibes in their life and the way they talk. If a person listens to quiet, meditative music, then I think they will reflect a quiet and calm person. Me, I listen to Christian music, and that lifts my spirits and makes me happy. When I go back to listening to so-called secular music, I feel drained, wiped out etc. unless it is used for such a purpose as music to move/exercise to. there are certain kinds of music that are great for working out to, like the 50's music, that today's rock style you cannot exercise to because it has the wrong beat and rhythm.
This is my personal belief, but I do think music has a huge impact on how a person feels emotionally, spiritually and how they react out in the world. Our subconscious minds are very tricky and can hold things we may not even realize. Yes, I believe the type of music one listens to does have a total impact on how they feel, react, live, act out etc.

In reply to Sheri's post, I can't help but wonder if there is some truth in what you say. But then at the same time, it sounds almost like a chicken and egg type thing. Is it that people seek out those types of music that reflect their inner life/desires/emotional states... or is it that they found the music and were then changed by that. Maybe music can perpetuate a certain state in a person, though I seem to doubt that it would instigate it.
As for music as a whole, I find the concept of objective and subjective music quite interesting. Objective music would be music that would evoke the exact same response in every listener, and subjective a.. well, subjective one! lol. Music is vibrations, and our whole body is brimming with a multitude of vibrations that come together to create a totality of vibrations unique to ourselves, and so it stands to reason that certain music must be able to penetrate into these vibrations and create its own desired result if it follows certain laws. _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |

I hadn't ever thought of the vibrations as you describe them. I wonder if that would be the reason that ppl are attracted to certain type(s) of music. Meaning, do I like rock because it agrees with my own personal vibrations? Would the same be true for others's choices in music? |

They are definately interesting questions, ones that probably need a lot more exploration. _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |

I may sound rather boring, but I do not listen to rock music or any other pop music etc.
There has been evidence about Rock music being very harmful to one's spiritual life, and my spiritual life is more important than listening to that noise.
Hope I haven't offended anyone, I just wanted to say that I am one of the few that doesn't listen to that music.

Would you mind providing the source of your information about the harm in rock music? I am not offended that you dislike it; I would like to have a look and judge for myself. |

I like some forms of rock music, though only the ones with actual melodies and good lyrics like Queen, meatloaf, guns n roses. _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |

Woohooo! I like all of them. *air guitars to Paradise by the Dashboard Lights* This song really changes my mood, if I'm in a not so great one. |
