Hi I am Christa
I have been writing for many years with varying degrees of success. I have been published in several industry specific magazines and in-house publications, have featured in a few anthologies, have a published collection of short stories and have won a few minor writing competitions...equally I have amassed enough rejection slips to completely paper a small room!
In 2006 I had an accident and sustained a head injury and things ground to a halt for a while. I am still in recovery and while I can do all the things I could do previously, I have no short term memory - which as you might imagine is somewhat inconvenient ...
Admittedly I may have some cognitive difficulties, but I have however mastered the art of the understatement.
And that, in a nutshell, is me. |

Thanks for the welcomes.
I realised after I posted my intro that I left out things that probably should have been included and rambled about things that could easily have been left out but I can't seem to locate an edit facility...does that mean that once I hit submit I cannot amend any messages? |

Hi Christa, whereas I did not suffer the instantaneous health crisis that you have had to cope with, twelve years ago I was diagnosed with parkinsons Disease. I will not try to compare how different are our symptoms or the effects on our lives this has made, I can only tell you my experiences.
Obviously, after so many years the disease gets worse, it is progressive and degenerative, no cure. Having said that, I accept it. I want to live my life to the fullest. While I still have quality time I want to spend it doing what I want to do and luckily I am in a position that I am able to do a lot of it. I have a twin sister who lives in England, I live in Canada, I have just bought a vacation home in England in the same town where my sister has a second home. I want to spend many weeks every summer with her while I can still travel, and I look forward to that.
I used to do a lot of sewing but my hands won't let me do that now, so I went back to poetry that I had not done for years, this has led me to this wonderful site where I have made, in just a short time, a couple of on-line friends who I would never have met had I been well.
I am not glad that I have this illness but a lot of good things have come from it. This is the first time I have ever written anything on this forum so I am not sure what to do next. One thing I will say is that you will understand in the circumstances that I may have a few typos. That is one of the times when you have to carefully put the curser over the letters and my hans make it go all over the screen, so often i give up. i can't wear mascara any more because I poke the brush into my eyes, I do not order soup in public because those sitting with me may well end up wearing it. All of these things I have to laugh about because at least each day I can get up and look at my face in the mirror and try to like what I se. There are so many who can't do that, so for these reasons I am lucky.
I have a good life.
Very best regards
Kay |

Kay...I would happily sit and eat/wear soup with you any time you are in the UK.
We'll get lost in typos together no doubt...us new girls must stick together |

Thanks, Christa, for offering to wear my soup. I am in England often and it would be great to meet someone. I have a small property in Sidmouth, Devon, where my twin sister also has a second home. I will probably be spending a couple of months there this summer, but I will go back and forward a couple of times. I still call England home!!!!
Not that do not like Canada, it is just not the same. Anyway as you said it is nice to chat to another newbie. I must learn a little more about these forums, so perhaps we will meet on-line sometime.
Cheers for now

Hello and welcome to the site! If you have any questions at all then you can pm me or Orion and ask, or you can check out the "knowledge base" which can be accessed from your account page. I can't imagine what it must be like to have no short term memory, all I can say is that I admire you for coping and for even seeing humor in it! _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |
