Just curious about another's "sacred place" or "place of inspiration". Me? I am never more inspired or at peace when I am among the trees and a gust of whirling wind sends a shower of leaves to dance around me, while the smiling willow takes a bow. Absolutely perfect.

This may sound strange, but climbing up onto the window sill just standing at an open window. I used to live in a boarding school inside of a huge park, the view outside the window was beautiful, I would always go there to quietly think, or just to get in touch with nature and to feel it as you described. And so now, I always get that same comfort from standing at a window.

It has to be the sea for me! As child I have such happy memories of it and wherever I am in the world, to be near the sea gives me that "coming home" feeling.

Lately I go to one of the many African markets and just sit...watch...I could do it for hours and walk away charged with colour, energy and inspiration. Other times when in Cape Town I go up into the mountain and sit and overlook the city. Here I find peace and harmony as if the trees can touch my soul. Sponge like I suppose I am.....many moods, many places, many tastes and lots of faces.

The River is my most sacred place. I love the woods and feel connected to the earth, but I find inner peace and strength when I visit the river. It's ever flowing, no matter how many obstacles enter it. The river moves peacefully at times down a path, and forges it's way through more challenging paths. It keeps going with no worry about what's behind it, and no worries about what's ahead. The spirit of the river has been an inspiration in my life to connect with my own inner spirit.

I do not have a formal sacred place or place of inspiration. What I do have are those times where nature's beauty, human interaction, words, art, sounds and smells can send me into a serene state where I am not conscience of what's going on around me, but become in tune with a deeper level of existance and awe.

I grew up on a farm in Western Canada and there was this small natural clearing in the woods surrounding our house. As a child, I'd wander to that clearing, lie in the grass and listen to the wind blow, the birds sing, the cows low and the sheep bleet. In spring, dandelion and little purple Johnny Jump Ups would cover the gentle knolls. The air was filled with floral, evergreen, poplar, and willow fragrancies. As the warm sun beams shone on me, my ordinary world disappeared and I'd go to far off places, meet neat people, and do everything my mind could imagine. Now, I'm always on the "look out" for a tiny clearing in which I can recreate that same magic I felt as a child.

My place of inspiration is within the arms of Mother Nature be it in the mountain woods, by the sea
or ankle deep in cold swirling waters moving the world to the sea one sand grain at a time.

When none of those places are accesible to me I sit in front of my lap top
computer beneath a golden framed picture of a boat on blue water.

Chopin piped into my ears is no slouch in the inspiration department either.

My grandparent's Nebraska farm was my sacred place, though it was sold upon my grandfather's death. Race horses are bred and worked there now. So use my imagination to go there and it is as peaceful as ever.

Walking a lonely stretch of white, sandy beach, watching the waves roll in and listening to the soothing sound as they crash on the shore. I love to inhale the salt air and feel the ocean spray on my tongue.

I don't know that any place is sacred to me,I loved the beach also when I was on vacation. I spent most of my time there and loved every minute of it.Nowadays and being older I tend to think that all places are as sacred as you want to make them.

There are a several places that I feel the most peace at.

1) My home. At the moment, no one lives with me.

2) Cemeteries. If they were not so dangerous at night, I would go there more often. The dead generally are silent. :-)

3) Any place isolated, fresh, and natural. I gain energy by spending time alone. Anything involving too many people in one place does not help me charge up my energy. I am a true introvert.

Sincerely,
TheRadiantSeraphim
