With political debates minimized on the matter, who here is a vegetarian? I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, though have to keep away from milk products for a few weeks to see if my body does not react well to it.

Sincerely,

I came across your post. I'm just wondering what is a lacto-ovo vegetarian?

Lacto-ovo vegetarians are vegetarians who still consume milk and egg products, eggs usually from free-ranged hens. Eggs are still considered valid for a form of a vegetarian diet because the eggs are sterilized before becoming life, though some vegetarians still have an issue with eggs due to the treatment of the hens in the process - which is why I prefer getting the eggs from companies that sell eggs from hormone shot free hens, if not free-ranged hens (and these are getting as cheap as regular eggs, I have only seen them as thirty cents more at most, but I have no problem with the extra cost since I only eat eggs in moderation).

Then you have lacto-vegetarians who will only eat milk products and not eggs, then the vegans who refrain from animal products period: some will go as extreme as excluding white sugar since it sometimes whitens from using the bones of a certain creature, depending on the processor; some even exclude honey from bees, due to how the honey is processed.

I have also heard of micriobiotics, who refrain from nightshade plants on top of animal products, which are vegetables grown underground, since it is believed that taking them out harms something. The list of variants can go on. Semi-vegetarian is a term for someone who avoids certain meats or limits meat in-take somehow, and is generally not recognized as vegetarian.

Do those people who are complete vegans not wear wool? Or use leather, or any of the products that cow skin is used in? I'm not actually sure what things cow skin is used in, maybe you would know. I know that it is used in the making of shoes sometimes.

I'm not a vegetarian or any of its variants. I eat meat but for me personnaly, I try to pay for that by respecting life and the animals around me. I know it doesn't sound like a great compromise, hey I'm going to eat you but don't worry I respect you LOL.

Oh! I have nothing against non-vegetarians at all. Trust me. It is a personal lifestyle choice for me and I am not going to be screaming at the world. The way I see it is: "If you can avoid meat or cut down on it, good for you. If not, I will not hold it against you." I know someone who tried to go vegetarian and they hurt themselves in the process, so I know some people do need the meat.

But, to answer your question, I suppose it -might- depend on why they went vegetarian or vegan, too. I personally think it is a way to describe lifestyle but mainly focused on food. But, I am fairly certain a lot of vegans and even some vegetarians (I do to a degree) try to research the source of products. I can imagine that vegans try to go for pleather instead of leather, and try to avoid wool or even silk (due to the process they go through to get it).

I have a few leather things around me, but intend to get rid of some of them and I hope to eventually replace my tiny purse with a fake leather one, like my big purse is. I do have one silk shirt, but I got it when I was not a vegetarian so I may not do away with it like I will the leather. My issue with silk is that it is made by not stripping the worms of it, but gassing them and then taking the silk, since when they become moths, they eat through the silk cocoons, thus prevent it from being long strands of thread. But, I could probably do more research on this, too - silk worms just happen to be a main source of silk.

Sincerely,

Sorry for the double post, I forgot to answer another question...

I think a lot of times in regards to clothing material, though, it says when it is genuine leather or genuine wool, so people know what made the product. Sometimes if this is an uncertainty, the person might try to research the brand and see what the product is made of.

I know of one person in an article who would only eat things "given" by nature, in the form of fruit and things that can be picked. Unfortunately, some of these kind of people can die from malnourishment if their body is not ready for that "step" in having less need for food sources. Sadly, we are going to be harming something to a small degree or another to consume. It is a big food chain in this world. I just try to do the least harm as possible.
