This company performs book shepherding services and is for the rich and famous. I published my book: Are You Fit To Love? with them.
They charged me a monthly fee of US $ 1500 to manage edits, layout, coverdesign, ISBN and whatever else is required to come up with the
ultimate product: your book.
$ 50 000 later, I only had 500 books, no marketing and a publisher who asks bookbuyers to leave their credit card # and address on her answering machine.
This company performs a hostile Hollywood style take-over of your manuscript and then you hooked. Whatever you do, stay away from them. They may work for those who have excess cash and are more concerned with the vanity of being and author than actual sales of a book. I was suckered in and feel really stupid for having fallen for them. I have since cut my ties with them and started all over again. |

Welcome to the forums.
Allie, thank you for sharing your personal experience with this publisher.
Perhaps your story will help another avoid making the same mistake. It seems so many companies really wish nothing more than to separate emerging authors' from their hard earned money.
I hope that your new venture will be successful and wish you the best with your book. _________________ The light of Never, Never Land and the blood of Lara Croft flow through my veins...

I for one have never heard of the publisher and have no experience with them. I did a Google search and was unable to find anyone else sharing a similar grievance.
I’m not at a spot where I feel that I can comment, never having worked with them. However again thank you for sharing your experience and what you feel to be your opinion. It is advised all members research any company before signing with them. _________________ Rose DesRochers World Outside My Window|

Dear Jayal, you are right.
First many of these publishing companies are extremely helpful and make you believe that only with them can you succeed. The dog and pony show is so successful and appealing to new authors.
This goes for many other publishers, such as Bookman Marketing and many more.
One almost becomes afraid of publishing with anyone. The answeris: do your homework, get references, ask other authors and do not publish outside of the country you live in. This is what I did. I live in Canada and published through the US. Even though I had an airtight case against my previous publisher, different jurisdications make it impossible to recover anything or even slap their wrist. The only way I got out of this arrangement was by not replying to all their calls and e-mails. Eventually they became fed up with my silence and thankfully dropped my book.
Thank you for all your good wishes. All the best to you. All we want to do as authors, is help others.
Cheers,
Allie |

Bookman Marketing, ah the spammers that told me in a not so nice email "Rock- Paper - Glue - I say - Screw You"
This was in response to my being removed from the spam that they send.
Despite several request to Bookman Publishing and Marketing they continue to send me spam. I suggest avoiding them at all cost. The way they do business is most unethical. " Sigh" _________________ Rose DesRochers World Outside My Window|

Bookman Publishing and Marketing has changed their name to Airleaf Publishing and Bookselling. Click on their logo in the upper left hand corner of their webpage to see their 'changes'.
I have noticed a lot of this over the past year.
Publishing companies that have had 'excessive troubles' with authors seem to simply move on to a new less recognizable name. It is sometimes hard to keep up. _________________ The light of Never, Never Land and the blood of Lara Croft flow through my veins...

Yes, there are quite a lot of name changes going on in the publishing industry. My publisher "Little Moose Press" may not have any bad publicity, as you Rose, rightfully suggested. The reason for this is that they only have a few published authors, for all of whom money is no object. However, this publisher's shepherding entity operates under a different name: that is where suckers, like I, end up.
As for bookman's spaming, I was subjected to that as well. Prior to that, I almost published with bookman. But because I wanted to investigate them further, Brien Jones told me: either you sign up or you are out. As of now, I am only doing books with Hollywood movie potential." My book about ehtical, morally responsible and authentic relationships certainly has no place in Hollywood. |

Rose, this company moved offices many times. Sometimes they operated as: Smarketing or Reid Shepherding. I myself have never filed an official complaint anywhere. I was too upset to even deal with them
anymore.

I sent Allie’s post to Ellen Reid to get her side of the story. I offered Ellen the chance to join Today’s Woman and make her own statement regarding Allie’s allegations. At first Ellen requested that I call her or she call me. I explained to her that I do everything by email. She did send me her side of the story. When I requested to publicize this email, she declined. So at her request, I will not be sharing that email. However she has requested that I not allow Allie to continue to post about her or her business. She also stated, “don't force me into a situation where I have to defend myself for defamatory liable being posted on your site.”
I was just like to state that Today’s Woman takes no responsibility for the opinions expressed here. They do not necessarily reflect our opinion, and are solely based on the experience of individual members. It also states this in our terms of service. _________________ Rose DesRochers World Outside My Window|

I have a question.
How can we in good faith try to warn fellow writers when our comments are being sent to the publisher?
Unless I misunderstood, why would someone's post be sent to the publisher to hear the publisher's side of the story?
I can certainly understand and would welcome someone contacting the publisher asking for an explanation. But to send the person's post? yikes!!!
I came here today to post a rather large warning regarding another publisher, but now I've changed my mind.
