Hi All,
I'm new here, and new to writing sites in general. Actually, I'm just plain new to the thought of actually being a writer. But, I'm very excited about the prospect.
I'm three years from being able to retire, having worked at a state university since age 19. I receive a tuition waiver (an incredible benefit) and decided a couple years ago that I can actually retire then do something I want to do for a living, or have dreamed of doing. I have loved the classes I've taken in various disciplines (it's a liberal arts university), but have had a difficult time deciding what I want to be when I grow up. I know that I love to write and do a lot of writing in my current position, but wondered if I could actually make a living at it on my own. So I began researching various career options in writing and have decided that yes, I think I can do it. Having the security of retirement income will obviously soften the sting of rough beginnings and numerous rejection letters....at least I hope so. Now that I've made the decision, though, I'm very happy about it....and I'm anxious to begin learning as much as I can.
So I work full time, take classes in the evenings and weekends, majoring in English/Creative Writing. I'm the mother of three (all grown) and grandmother of one.
I may not post often, but I'll lurk and learn. So thank you in advance for whatever info and knowledge you share.

Aww.. that is so sweet! a courageous thought indeed. But lets just not let go off of the fact of living and expenses. it may be a wonderland for a few amongst us, but it nearly takes ages to make a mark somewhere to earn the much, you need to pull off expenses.
I just hope and pray that your dreams come true and that the facts that we all know of, remains fake.
lots of blessings and love to you..
All the best. May the Almighty gives you strength to go through this phase of life! A'men
