take a tour around the site and you should understand the benefits, eg the pleasure of reading others work, participating in the forums, posting your own work for feedback, these are just a few. As Lark said, you can learn a lot here from reading others' work, getting feed back on your own work. There are also advertisement opportunities, and many people who have already published books and who have know how concerning that, you will have to get to know people hear to find out where everyone is at!
