I wrote a poem this morning that I'd like to get feedback on. I've been afraid and have procrastinated with submitting anything. Would it be best to submit it in the poem section or here in the forum? It is not protected by copywrite, none of my stuff is. I can't afford that right now, which is another reason for my not writing publicly.

I want to use this poem on my website.

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to do this.

Thanks,
Julia

It would be best to submit it to the poem section. The poem section is only viewable to Today's Woman members. The forums are viewable to visitors.
If you publish the poem on your website, you will not be able to get it published as most will consider it to be already published. Not to mention it will be easy for people to copy it as you are concerned with copyright theft. You do know that your poem is copywritten the moment you write it? If you post it in the poem section here, most publishers will consider it a workshop item. You should still let them know it was posted in a member only section here should you decide to send it somewhere.

Thank you again for helping. No, I did not know that my work is copywritten the moment I write it. This makes me feel a little better. Reading a little of the copywrite articles helps, so I will read more and educate myself better.

The poem I wrote will be at the beginning of my website on the home page. I guess a part of me still lacks confidence and my main reason for wanting feedback was to get pats on the back for a job well done.

I've been working on getting my website going, rather than just thinking about it, as was suggested. But I'm running into difficulties as I have no idea how to set it up. Embarassed Well, that's not entirely true, I know how to do the basics, but lack in the technical aspect of designing it to look professional. I am not that creative in the arts and designs.

Thanks again for you help,
Julia

If you are looking for a designer and are willing to spend Money then that is Shawn's job. Wink What platform are you using? Will you have forums?

What are platforms? Embarassed

I have a website package with 1and1 that I will be using to begin with. I got it a couple months ago when there was a special deal. I work 30 hours a week and my husband does not work. We are living off my income and his educational loans (he enrolled in college), so spending any money at this point for a designer or anything else is not possible.

The package I have is the home package, which is fine for just beginning, and it doesn't require knowledge of html to set it up in a simple way. I pretty much figured out how to do my home page, and I have 11 more pages available. I also have extras that I can include like games, feedback forum, guest book, newlsetter capability, lots of email addresses available and a store that has t-shirts, etc, which I can put my logo on.

It has a basic forum or I can use a subdomain and have a phpBB forum, which I plan on doing rather than the basic. I'll have more administration control and can require registration for joining. I played with this a little, but I'm not sure exactly how to set it up. Pretty much everything I've learned to do, I just do by playing around and trying to find tutorials, or help in various forums.

I'm getting a clearer picture of how I want to set up the pages, I just am not all that artistic to make it look pretty or professional. Even though my site will not be about getting people to buy things, I realize it still needs to catch the readers attention, if they are to stick around. I figured that's where the poem comes in, since it's pretty much what the site will be about.

My goal is to have at least two or three pages set up, and the forum, and publish it by this weekend. I will continue to build as I go, depending on the needs and desires of who shows up. Some may think that's sloppy and poor planning, but for me, it's important that I just do it, at this point.

My husband reminded me that my brother-in-law is a web designer, and my son does that stuff too, so I will be able to get some help from them.

Thanks for your help,
Julia
