I find that after writing an article, which may contain many edits, it is often difficult to spot errors by simply reading it through.
Some of the errors will have become fixed in the memory. A good solution is to find someone knowledgeable to read it for you. Rather than relying on someone else though, I find that using Text to Speech software to read the article aloud is an excellent alternative.
There are some really good computer voices available which are not at all like the early robotic sounding voices and they are now very affordable. I wonder if others here are using the text to speech option. _________________ Dave

Rose, I use TextAloud from nextup.com. My favourite voices are Kate from Neospeech and Heather from Acapella. Both voices are available from nextup.com along with a large selection of other voices. It is a small company and they provide fantastic customer support and have a thriving user forum where problems and queries are discussed. I have used the product for over 3 years now and can't recommend it too highly. I even use it to convert ebooks to mp3 format and listen while travelling! _________________ Dave

Greetings! I think I have a solution to help improve your writing by elimating those pesky little errors. Me!
Allow me to introduce myself. First of all, you can call me Lisa. I am a copyeditor/proofreader looking to expand my resume. I was an English major for four years of college, and have experience editing scientific manuscripts. I love reading all types of work, especially fiction.
I will be happy to proofread/edit a chapter of anything you are working on. In exchange, all I ask is that you allow me to add your name and the title of your writing to my resume. There will be no charge.
Materials should be no shorter than ten pages and not longer than 30 pages.
If interested, please e-mail your work to the below address as a Microsoft Word document. I will return your writing within 24 hours and corrections will be made using track changes. Feel free to specify anything in particular that you would like feedback on!
PLEASE NOTE: I will never plagiarize your writing or share it with anyone else.
Contact information: djfoxiey@yahoo.com
I look forward to hearing from you and good luck on all of your writing endeavors!
Thank you,
Lisa |
