The plot takes place in our century, they use weapons such as guns and swords and knives...i've written a few fighting scenes in the past vampires stories but everytime i read them again i feel like they arent as good as i know they could be...so can someone please help me with some pointers and key advice that can come to use in my situation. |

This may or may not help you, but here's what I do: I go to the library or to the internet and look for stories with lots of action and fight scenes. I don't use sentences or phrases from the scenes I find (Heaven forbid!), but I do get ideas from the descriptions. |

| I'm a sci-fi/action writer. I don't know if I write the kind of fighting scenes you're looking for, but you can check out my website at web.mac.com and look at the first chapter. If you like that, I'd be happy to tell you how I pull it off. |

Well, I haven't written many fight scenes... especially not sci-fi ones, but I can try to say a few things that might help!
Location... pretty obvious i suppose, but an interesting location with the potential for interaction can make fight sequences much more interesting. By interaction I mean the characters being able to use things in their environment, or climb and move about in it.
It also makes a huge difference whether or not you decide to do it in the 1st or 3rd person. In 1st person perspective you can have a more indepth look into the one character and his interpretation of what the other person is trying to do. Or you can have a more objective view which can switch from person to person. Also showing what a person intends to do versus what actualy happens can be interesting, for what we try to do... and im sure especialy when fighting, it hardly ever works the way we wanted it to.
Also remember fatigue... the length of the fight has to be believable within the characters strength and stamina perameters.
Which character is defending and which is attacking? or are they both attacking? this makes a big difference in how they would act within the fight.
I don't know if any of that was useful, you probably already knew all of it anyway! _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |
