Two boys who tore down the hall of Patton Middle School after lunch, swatting the bottoms of girls as they ran by could be facing the prospect of 10 years in juvenile detention and a lifetime on the sex offender registry.
My son who is 13 brought up a very good point with this story. Sex offenders don't even get ten years. Most are let off on house arrest, yet these boys will have to spend the next tens years behinds bars, worse yet have a record? I think that they should be disciplined, but this is going beyond too far.
Your thoughts?

You are correct, Rose. Their punishement should fit the crime (this is not a crime, just poor behavior).
Our modern society has gone way over board on how to handle problems such as what these boys did. If we hade that kind of rulings or judgments when I was their age, every guy in my school would be on that "list".

I saw on ABCnews that the probation they would be offered would most likely unable them to have sexual contact with anyone or any contact at all with younger children for x amount of time. So.... now they are being labelled as possible peadophiles too?? Beyond madness... there are no words. _________________ Teal´c : To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important. |

| Is there a link to the story so I can respond in an informed manner? |

Okay I must be blind...
To begin with I wonder what was wrong with the parents of these kids, allowing them to be INTERROGATED FOR HOURS!!!
Lawyer the hell up already!
Second, it looks as if someone wants to make someone a special example considering this has happened prior.
There is a bonafied registered sex offender living near me and if I alert any of the neighbors or warn any of their children I WILL be charged with harrassment and look down the barrell of a jail term.
But let's get real here, I would not want anyone's boy slapping the butt of my daughter.
If a stern warning was not enough then as her momma I'd be willing to do whatever I needed to do to get the behavior stopped.
No one has the right to take such liberties. If we allow the boys to take such liberties unchallenged at this young age what lines will they be barn-storming across in another 4 years? |
