January 30th, 2013Breakfast on the go with Kelloggs
We’ve all heard it a million times before, but it’s worth saying one more time: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast really is important to your health, but so many people- including me- skip it on a regular basis. Eating breakfast gives your the metabolism the necessary energy level needed to start your day. Many of us trade breakfast for that few extra minutes of sleep, or we skip breakfast in the rush to send the kids to school or get to work.
If you don’t have time to sit down to a big breakfast every morning, that doesn’t mean you have to skip it altogether. Kellogg Canada knows how inportant breakfast is and has rolled-out a line-up of new products that will have you eating on your way out the door.
Kellogg’s Special K launches breakfast sandwiches & protein shakes
Delicious breakfast sandwiches in 90 seconds flat! The breakfast sandwich is one of the fastest growing items on restaurant menus. The new Special K Flatbread Morning Sandwiches provide 170-240 calories. Now available in three flavours: Egg with Vegetables & Pepper Jack Cheese; Egg & Sausage; and Egg, Ham & Pepper Jack Cheese. You can find them in the freezer section at most local grocery stores.
We tried the ham. They turned out great and were full of flavor. They were easy to pop in the microwave and were done in 80 seconds. These sandwiches are made with multi-grain flat bread and are only between 170-240 calories.
Shake up your morning with new Special K Morning Shake protein drinks. This shake comes in three flavours: Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. I will warn you, stores are having a hard time keeping them stocked, because they are so popular. With 10g of protein, 12 essential nutrients and 190 calories per serving, we found the shakes to curve our hunger until lunch. Special K protein shakes contain milk and soy ingredients, so if you are allergic to either- you will want to avoid them. Not for those on a low-cholesterol or a low-sodium diet. Each one has 10 to 15 mg cholesterol and 220 to 230 mg sodium. Find them in the breakfast aisle.
Smart Snacking is in the forecast for 2013
The number one cereal bar in Canada is now introducing soft baked goodness. Available in Blueberry Muffin and Banana Bread, anyone looking for a good snack bar, or even a quick breakfast bar will be pleased with Nutri-Grain Soft Bakes from Kellogg.
New cereals wake up the taste buds
Make your morning ripe for the pickin’ with new Mini-Wheats Centres Raspberry flavour. Enjoy a lightly frosted 100 per cent whole grain biscuit with a touch of real fruit filling in the centre that delivers a delicious zing of raspberry flavour. The texture of the cereal is very crunchy and the mixed berry-flavored filling reminded us of the filling in Kellogg’s Raspberry Nutri-Grain cereal bars.
Serve up lots of fun
New Eggo Minis waffles in Original or Cinnamon Toast flavour have the same great crispy texture and classic taste as the big ones. These will not only be a big hit in your house with the kids, but adult as well. My grown daughter who no-longer lives at home with us was eying the box we had in our freezer. Sadly she missed out on the delicious waffles that I enjoyed with my husband as a midnight stack.
