The Leakey Collection was founded in 2002 by husband and wife team Philip and Katy Leakey. Their work includes the design and manufacture of contemporary jewelry that is hand made by the Maasai women and men of Kenya from environmentally sustainable materials. Distributed to over 1200 retail outlets and available for purchase online (www.leakeylife.com), the Leakey Collection’s Zulugrass jewelry provides handmade jewelry accessories to women and offers a sustainable way of life for the people of Kenya. Not only are the Massai women paid for their work and given the flexibility they need to maintain their jobs, 5% of profits go back to supporting infrastructure in the Rift Valley of Kenya.
I am a big supporter of businesses that give back to others as well as I support the play it forward movement. My son’s girlfriend has been a huge blessing in my life. As a christian and missionary she always thinks of others before herself. She is off to college in Sept for nursing and I wanted to present her with a going away gift that not only showed my appreciation to her, but her Christian faith. I knew she would be as impressed as I am with the The Leakey Collection, so when I was given the chance to review the collection of jewelry I happily accepted as a way to play it forward to someone who had given me so much and to tell you all about a fabulous product and the efforts of Philip and Katy Leakey in helping the people of Kenya.
I chose for A.C the Christian Fish Bracelet. Made from fallen branches, the charm is hand-branded with a fish to symbolizes the Christian faith. The stylish casual bracelet create a strong statement and shows people what A. C feels about her beliefs and how proud she is. The bracelet is nice to wear alone or layered with other 7″ charm Bracelets from the collection.
