Mom’s blood pressure might be up these days and (let’s face it) stress is probably part of the problem. Hypertension is dubbed as the ‘silent killer’ because it strikes without warning, which is why it is so important for mom to have a home blood pressure machine.
Keeping a record of blood pressure measurements will show her and her doctor not only how well her medicine is working, but also allows her to identify any changes in her blood pressure.
Did you know that Women with high blood pressure have a 3.5-times greater risk of developing heart disease than women with normal blood pressure?
Knowing ones blood pressure can prevent a number of health problems from occurring. When blood pressure is too high, it puts stress on the body’s entire vascular system, forcing the heart to work harder. When hypertension is left uncontrolled for some time, hypertension can lead to heart failure or stroke.
There are an estimated 70,000 heart attacks each year in Canada. That’s one heart attack every 7 minutes. Each year, more women than men die from stroke.
As someone with hypertension, measuring my blood pressure is important. I have been using the Omron BP785CAN Blood Pressure Monitor for over 7 months now and just recently it saved me from a possible heart attaché or stroke. Because I was monitoring my blood pressure regularly I was able to get to the hospital in time and am now on medication for hypertension.
I do a lot of traveling, so I wanted a blood pressure monitor that I could easily take with me. That is when Dan of Omron Healthcare recommended the Omron HEM-652, a portable wrist blood pressure monitor.
The Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist Unit has a two person mode, meaning that you can take up to 100 bp recordings for each patient and a total of 200 BP recordings. The unit has built in IntelliSense technology exclusive to Omron that automatically inflates the Cuff to the optimum level for both comfort and accuracy of measurement. Once the reading is complete then the Cuff is deflated.
For best results, the wrist should be at heart level, or in the “Heart Zone”. To guide the user to this Zone, the monitor uses a system of orange and blue lights. If the light is orange, you are outside of the Zone and/or are not wearing the monitor correctly.
I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy with the device compared to my Omron BP785CAN Blood Pressure Monitor, though I had a little bit of trouble finding the right position to wear the cuff on my wrist. The monitor can also detect and alert you to irregular heartbeats while your blood pressure is being measured as well.
Overall the Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist Uni is portable, accurate and simple to use. It provides a convenient choice for those who want a second unit for travel. Also a nice advantage of this monitor is that anyone with large arm circumference like myself can still use it.
If you already have an arm unit, it’s a great second monitor. If you’ve yet to buy your first unit, then this would be a good choice too.
