Bradford Publishing Hosts Book Drive for Louisiana Libraries
Bradford Publishing announces a book drive to benefit the Louisiana libraries beginning on Fat Tuesday, February 28, 2006.
"Before the hurricanes we had 339 public libraries. Now 106 are either
damaged or destroyed. There were 45 total collections damaged -- some
completely or partially lost," says Rebecca Hamilton, State Librarian for
Louisiana. "The libraries are funded by property taxes, which are paid by
businesses and homeowners. But many of those businesses were destroyed. And
many of those homeowners are not coming back."
"Bradford Publishing is proud to be a part of the Colorado book
community. Books provide so much: education, entertainment, comfort and
hope," says William "Brad" Bradford, fourth-generation company owner. "And
community libraries in particular are a wonderful resource for everyone. So
many in the Louisiana communities have lost so much already; they shouldn't
have to lose their libraries, too."
"We're so appreciative that people are helping from all over the
country," adds Hamilton. "Everything counts."
The libraries are in need of gently used books including fiction,
non-fiction published in the last five years, and audio books. The libraries
can't accept professional legal, medical, technical or scientific books, or
old encyclopedias, almanacs, or textbooks.
Please consider the physical condition of the book before donating:
-- Binding must be intact
-- Cover should not be torn
-- Spine should not be frayed
-- Pages not torn or missing
-- Not written in, underlined or highlighted
-- No mold, dirt, food, or water damage
Bradford Publishing will accept books at its retail location at 1743
Wazee Street in downtown Denver beginning on Fat Tuesday when donors will be
treated to Mardi Gras beads as well as complimentary coffee donated by
Common Grounds and other refreshments. Bradford will continue to accept
books through Friday, March 3. Bradford will also accept national bookstore
gift cards as well as monetary donations for the association. Bradford's
retail store opens at 8:00 a.m. and will extend hours until 7:00 p.m. from
Tuesday, February 28, through Thursday, March 2.
Donors can also donate books at Tattered Cover LoDo, Tattered Cover
Cherry Creek or Tattered Cover Highlands Ranch (though you have to donate at
Bradford to get the beads and other goodies).
Founded in 1881, Bradford Publishing is Colorado's oldest and most
trusted publisher of legal information and forms, software, and law books.
