by Dixie Bull Watching what keeps happening in our nation's capital, it reminds me of the television show "Survivor". Every other year, we get a cast (politicians) picked by the producers (us) to vie for the title Sole Survivor (the most powerful). Along the way we watch in abhorrent fascination the interaction between the cast. There are the good guys, the clueless, the irritating, the schemers, the liars; those that ride coat tails and those that will do anything to win. Instead of having the mantra of Outwit, Outplay, Outlast we instead get Out Lie, Out Cheat, Out Steal. At the beginning there is the jockeying for position. Some like to come out immediately cocky and self assured. Those are the ones that make so much noise no one else can be heard. Beware if you get in their way. You will be flattened with their steamroller ways and voted off at the first opportunity. Others like to hang back a bit, get a sense of where things are going before taking sides. Once they do take a side however, nothing, absolutely nothing will change their point of view: unless the bribe is high enough of course. In Survivor, everyone has a price. Once divided into two teams (parties) they each get a home base of their own to set up. If they are smart (and we are talking about politicians here) they will first build a shelter (yes-men) to protect them from the elements (problems). Unfortunately not all cast members are smart. If the leader decides they will concentrate instead on strategy training (health care, more stimulus) then when the rains come (war on multiple fronts, citizens unhappy with how things are run, the economy, bailouts, etc), that leader will be unprepared to handle the approaching storms. In order to emerge as the Sole Survivor, each wannabe leader needs to tap into those hidden reserves of strength many have and few of us realize we possess. By doing this you forge alliances, strengthening your team. However, they need to be careful. Eventually a merge comes along. If the leader is smart s/he won't burn bridges along the way. We have leaders in the House, Senate and Administration all jockeying for position of leader and ultimately Sole Survivor. Sadly, they are forgetting the other members of their "team" while trying to reach their goal. Those are the people who will become the jury (the voters) this election cycle. Will the winner this year be those who ignore everyone else and do what they want not matter what or will it be those who play well with each other and refuse to backstab. We will know in just a matter of weeks. I know which ones my votes are going to get. >Originally published on SearchWarp.com |
