grassroots charity, Children of the Street Society, has won top prize in its
Holiday social media contest which ended on December 25, 2011. The winning
charity will receive $1,000 worth of The Body Shop products to support their
causes. Children of the Street Society were recently selected by The Body Shop
as one of five international organizations in the three week social media
campaign which launched on December 5. "We're so grateful for the awareness that The Body Shop has helped raise for our organization, locally, nationally and internationally" says Executive Director Diane Sowden. "A huge thank you to all of The Body Shop fans for their participation in this contest and for their support." Children of the Street Society plans to auction The Body Shop prizes at an upcoming event during the Provincial Stop the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week taking place between March 5 - 11, 2012. All proceeds will go towards the Society’s prevention, education, early intervention and family support programs. Each year, the Province of British Columbia declares STOP the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Youth Awareness Week. Held annually in the month of March, the awareness week recognizes the importance of supporting communities to develop prevention, education, enforcement and intervention strategies to address the sexual exploitation of children and youth. Fuchsia-coloured ribbons symbolize efforts to prevent the sexual exploitation of children and youth; fuchsia is a combination of red, for red light districts, and purple, the provincial colour for violence prevention. About Children of the Street Society Children of the Street Society is a Provincial Society and Federal charity dedicated to preventing the sexual exploitation of children and youth by providing prevention and education workshops, public awareness initiatives and direct family support. The organization received program funding from The Body Shop Foundation to support its school-based program Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others (TCO2) which delivered 544 workshops to over 28,800 youth ages 11-18 in 31 communities across British Columbia this past school year alone. The Society was initially nominated by The Body Shop store in Coquitlam Centre to receive a grant invitation from The Body Shop International Foundation. The Coquitlam store, headed by Store Manager Jennifer McCormack and her team have also supported a number of fundraising initiatives to further support Children of the Street Society. www.childrenofthestreet.com About The Body Shop The Body Shop International plc is the original and ethical beauty brand, with over 2,500 stores in over 60 markets worldwide.
