Ways to Motivate Teenagers With Low Self Esteem

Many teenagers have low self-esteem. They don't think that they have much to offer, and they behave like victims. This is really a sad way of spending the youngest, and best, years of our lives.

Of course, the media is no help on this front, is it? No adolescent girl is ever slim or beautiful enough. Girls are always comparing themselves and their self-esteem seems to continuously get eroded because of all of these negative media messages.

Here are a few tips that could motivate all of you to get beyond low self-esteem.

1. Try not to compare yourself to others. There is nothing more devastating for your self-esteem than always thinking that you are worse off than someone else. You are your own unique self. Just celebrate every part of yourself.

2. Believe that you're great, just as you are. The media will make you believe that you're only be pretty if you loose ten pounds, or if you wear designer clothes. But this isn't true. You can look in the mirror and be proud of who you are right now.

3. Don't fall for societal fads. Not only are they usually short lived, but they can have a really negative impact on your self-esteem. Instead, develop your own style and follow through on it. Who knows, you may start a new trend of your own that others will emulate.

4. Don't allow others to put you down. Don't hang around people who are negative and who go out of their way to hurt you. You don't deserve to be around such kids. Instead, choose to hang around kids who are positive and think you're great.

5. Choose your friends wisely. Your friends should not put you down, otherwise they shouldn't be your friends. Life is too short to waste your time with negative people. Instead, choose nourishing friends, people who love you unconditionally.

By following these tips, you could keep strengthening your self-esteem. You will all have times when your self-esteem suffers and when you feel down on yourself. These are exactly the times that you need to take steps to ensure that you do something to strengthen your self-esteem so that it doesn't suffer.
