Your T.V., home theater system, DVD player and music system all have their own separate remote control.  Around our house this leads to the problem of too many remotes, which causes confusion not just for my wife, but even myself at times. Our problem is solved! Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control makes juggling remote controls a thing of the past. Father’s Day is this upcoming Sunday. If you are stumped on what to get Dad, might I suggest Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control?

We own the following entertainment devices:

  • Onkyo Home Theater Entertainment System
  • 55” LG 4K UltraHD webOS Smart TV
  • Sony Blu-Ray / DVD Player
  • ROKU 3 Media Player
  • Android Media Box

That’s 5 remote controllers that we were jugging. My dear wife had given up trying to figure out which one to use. Therefore, as an early Father’s Day gift I receive a Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Smart Remote. I couldn’t be happier!

The Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion comes with the following to get you started:

  • The Logitech Harmony Hub
  • Harmony Companion Remote
  • IR Mini Blaster
  • USB Cable
  • AC Adapter
  • Users Manual

The Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion supports the standard WIFI settings and channels using Wi-Fi: Supports 802.11g/n, WPA Personal, WPA2-AES and 64/128-bit WEP encryption. It also has Alexa for Voice control to easily manage the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion.

You can use it with either an Android Device or iPhone, and a Laptop or Desktop PC. In addition it includes the Amazon Alexa, and Google assistant for easy hands free control over your Logitech Harmony Hub and Remote. Harmony Companion works with over 270,000 entertainment and smart home devices, so you can enjoy single-touch control with your favorite brands, right out of the box. It can also control your lights and other smart devices by adding an adapter that you’re other devices simply plug in to.

Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control set up

Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control To setup your Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion you need a Smart Phone, either Android or iPhone or you can use your PC. This enables you to use the Harmony Setup APP. I chose to set up the universal remote using my laptop and the process is quite simple.

In order to program the remote you do need a Harmony Account, in which you can login using your Facebook or Google Account or you can register a Harmony account by using your email address.

Once you’re logged in — the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Software will prompt you to plug the Logitech Harmony Hub  by using the included USB cable. Simply connect the USB cable from your computer (phone) to the hub.

You will then be prompt to name the hub, so that you can easily identify it on your home wireless network. The next step is the setup of the wireless connection in which you add the hub to your network.

Using the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control software

Once that’s all complete the fun stuff begins!

Now it is time to use the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control software to scan for your entertainment devices automatically. Don’t threat if the Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control doesn’t find some of your devices automatically, as you can also add them manually by giving the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Software some basic information about each of your devices. If the software find your device automatically you’re set to go!  If it doesn’t you will need to get you other entertainment devices working first.

Under the Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Device Screen, simply click the ADD Device button. On the next screen the Harmony Hub will ask you for the devices Name, and model number. For example: My TV is a LG 4K UltraHD webOS Smart TV, so I entered the following: For the Name I used LG, next I entered the model number of my LG which I found under my TV settings: advance, general, about.

Logitech Harmony Home Control Companion Software then asks me to use the remote that came with my TV.  I simply point the remote at the Harmony Hub. Next: I am instructed on which buttons to click in order for the harmony hub to control my TV.

My Thoughts

Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control I was worried at first that it would be difficult to set up, but it really was quite simple to do. After my TV was added, I proceeded to add my other entertainment devices one by one. At the time of writing this review I have them all added but my MediaBox that runs my Android Media Player. I am sure there is a way. I will just have to play with the Harmony Hub some-more to figure it out. Nonetheless I was able to replace 4 remote controls with one.

The Harmony Home Control Companion Remote has a great feel to it and has a gel grip for easy handling. The hub is just a little larger then a ROKU hub, but very slender. The IR mini-blaster is ideal if you have your entertainment device in a TV hutch or closed cabinet as you can attach the hub and run it up the back of your entertainment unit.

Due to the versatility of this all-in-one remote control by Logitech Harmony Companion I would have to give it 5 Stars. It comes with easy to use software to program the Harmony Remote Control and a Hub for programming your entertainment devices.

The Logitech companion delivers the best universal remote experience for the money. Life is good when you don’t have to dig through the remote control box to find the remote you need. The Logitech Harmony Companion Remote Control makes life simpler and more convenient. My wife is happy and I am sure my aunt will be the next time she babysits our 4 year old. Now I’ll just have to teach them both how to work it. Wish me luck folks!
